Women’s Soccer Concludes Season with 2-1 Loss at St. Francis (Pa.)
Loretto, Pa. – The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team lost to Saint Francis (Pa.), 2-1, in their final regular-season game at DeGol Field in Loretto, Pa. With the loss, the Bobcats conclude their 2012 season with an overall record of 9-6-2, including a 5-4-1 mark in conference competition. Saint Francis (Pa.) completes an undefeated NEC season, improving to 13-4-2 overall, 10-0 in the NEC.
The Bobcats fell behind just ten minutes into action when sophomore midfielder Natalie Isett scored off a pass from junior forward Tesa McKibben. Her strike from the top of the 1-yard box sailed past veteran keeper Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.), granting the Red Flash an early 1-0 lead. The goal registered at Isett's first of the season.
Saint Francis (Pa.) continued to press forward and garnered a second goal in the 15th minute. The duo of Isett and McKibben teamed up again, resulting in a commanding 2-0 lead over the Bobcats. On the backend of the play, McKibben beat Kelley for her 17th marker of the campaign.
Just before heading to the locker rooms, Quinnipiac freshman Amanda Barroca (Bellmore, N.Y.) gave the Bobcats life with her first career goal. Senior Shauna Edwards (Southington, Conn.) served a long cross over the backline of the Red Flash, where Barroca slammed home QU's first goal to cut the deficit in half. Edwards was credited with her team-leading fourth assist of the season.
The Bobcats defense was able to shut down the Saint Francis (Pa.) offense, maintaining the one-goal deficit. Unfortunately, the Bobcats couldn't find the equalizer needed to extend their season. Quinnipiac outshot their opponent 7-5, in the second period, but was unable to capitalize on their efforts.
Kelley made four saves on the afternoon, while Butcher turned aside five shots for the Red Flash. Saint Francis (Pa.) outshot the Bobcats, 13-9, overall, including an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Northeast Conference Playoffs will begin Friday, November 2, in Loretto, Pa. hosted by the top contender, Red Flash of Saint Francis. Play continues throughout that weekend with the Championship finale being held on Sunday, November 4.
