HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's soccer team is once again working in conjunction with the Intramurals Department on campus and will host the fourth annual "Give Cancer the Boot" fundraiser event on Saturday, May 4, 2013. The event will feature a co-ed 4x4 soccer tournament on Mount Carmel Campus at the Quinnipiac Soccer Field - with all the action set to begin at 10 a.m. This year's tournament will be held in honor of Christina Palmieri, a former Quinnipiac soccer player who was diagnosed with cancer.
Last year, when she began her battle with cancer, Palmieri fundraised The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Her team, Christina's Crusaders, raised $30,000 in just two months of work. The foundation was instrumental in helping her through the fight and for her efforts; Christina was selected as the honored patient of 2013, where she gives speeches at events for corporate sponsors and students.
"The 4v4 tournament is a great way to finish the spring season for the players and to have other teams involved makes it even better," said head coach Dave Clarke. "This year's event will help raise money to support our former player, Christina Palmieri, in her battle against cancer. Every tournament to date has raised money for a cancer charity, but this year's event is for one of our own, making it a little more meaningful for all of us."
Donations can be given at the event in the forms of cash or check. Fans interested in contributing can also donate online by clicking here.
