Women's Soccer Defeated by Marist, 3-0

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.– Marist's top three leading scorers Alycia Cartica, Rycke Guiney, and Samantha Panzner scored a goal each for Marist in their 3-0 win over Quinnipiac in the MAAC matchup on Wednesday night. Quinnipiac suffers their second loss in MAAC play as they move to 2-2-3 in conference play and 2-6-4 overall. Marist moves to 6-2 in conference play and 8-7-2 overall.

"We conceded a silly goal after 90 seconds so were chasing the game throughout," said Head Coach Dave Clarke."We played well at times and did not deserve to lose in the manner we did. I am proud of my players for the attitude and spirit they showed."

Marist was attacking from the start evidenced by Alycia Cartica's second minute goal. In the second minute Cartica was set up off a cross near the right sideline from junior forward Amanda Epstein. Cartica was able to control the ball in the box and pushed it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The goal tied Cartica at the time for the team lead with six goals and made her the team leader in points with 16.

Despite the quick goal for Marist the first half did not see many offensive statistics. The first half ended with Marist holding a 2-0 corner lead, a 2-1 shot lead, and a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.

The action would pick up in the second half. In the 66th minute after a foul on Quinnipiac , defending First Team All-MAAC and All-MAAC tournament midfielder Rycke Guiney, would set up for a free kick from about 40 yards out. Guiney put a shot on goal and connected for her team leading seventh goal of the season, and put her in the team lead with 17 points. 

In the 83rd minute Samantha Panzner wrapped up the scoring for Marist. Panzer took a pass from Amanda Epstein and took the ball up the left side of the field. She put the shot high in the net for the 3-0 lead for the Red Foxes. The goal was the fifth goal on the season for Panzner while Epstein picked up her second assist on the day and 15th point on the season.

 Natalia Grodzki (Bartlett,Ill.)made two saves on the day for Quinnipiac while defending MAAC defensive player of the week, Andrea Wicks, made two saves for Marist.  

 The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they travel to Buffalo to take on Canisius. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Demske Sports Complex.
