EDISON, N.J. – After two clean sheets last week, sophomore Natalia Grodzki (Bartlett, Ill.) has been named the MAAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 by the league's office. This is the second time this season that Grodzki has won the award. Grodzki also won the award on September 30th. Grodzki was instrumental in net for the Bobcats, which included a week that saw the Bobcats go 1-0-1 and become the only opponent to shutout 14-1-2 Monmouth this season.
Natalia Grodzki posted nine saves in the 1-0-1 week for the Bobcats. In the first game of the week against Manhattan, she made a five saves as Quinnipiac went on to defeat Manhattan, 1-0. Grodzki was stellar all game and would remain stellar against Monmouth who came into the game on Saturday, Oct. 26 with a 14-1-1 overall and 8-0-1 MAAC record. Grodzki made four saves and kept the clean sheet through two overtimes. Grodzki is currently the only goalie to shutout the Hawks this season.
No stranger to a clean sheet, Grodzki has achieved five and a half on the season and six and a half for her career. With the shutout against Monmouth, Grodzki moved into a tie with Gwen Miller (QU '03) for tenth place all-time in single-season shutouts. Grodzki is also 10th place all-time in single season goals against average with a 1.07 goals against average and sits in second place all-time with a 0.97 career goals against average.
The Bobcats are back in action on Thursday, Oct. 31 when they face the Manhattan Jaspers in the opening round of the MAAC Tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 pm at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. Live audio will be provided by the Quinnipiac Bobcats Sports Network (QBSN).
