Women's Tennis Sweeps Bryant In NEC Opener, 7-0

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Five Bobcats earned double wins as the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team swept Bryant, 7-0, in their NEC opener Sunday afternoon at the Bryant Tennis Complex. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 7-3 (1-0 NEC) on the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-10 (1-3 NEC).

Mary Wilson (Greensburg, Pa.), Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.), Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.), Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) and Natalie Duckor (North Tustin, Calif.) each won twice, while Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany) won at singles and Shawna Sarson (Albany, N.Y.) paired with Duckor for a doubles victory.

Wilson paired with Markison at No. 1 doubles to defeat Claudia Hidalgo and Valeria Couto Cuervo, 8-4. Wilson then defeated Hidalgo at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-5, while Markison beat Morganne Downing, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3.

Cantor and Viebrock paired at No. 2 doubles, beating Irma Rodriguez and Chelsea Downing, 8-4. Cantor then defeated Couto Cuervo, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, while Viebrock got past Katie Francazio at No. 4, 6-1, 6-4.

Duckor paired with Sarson at No. 3 doubles to defeat Francazio and Dana Tausek, 8-4. Duckor then beat Rodriguez at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Steinert rounded out the Bobcats' singles line-up, blanking Chelsea Downing at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0.

The Bobcats return to NEC action Wednesday when they travel to Teaneck, N.J. to face Fairleigh Dickinson. Matches are set to begin at noon.
