Stony Brook Defeats Women's Tennis, 5-1

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Freshman Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) won her No. 4 singles match, but the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team was defeated by Stony Brook, 5-1, Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Bobcats conclude the regular season at 8-7. They'll open NEC Tournament action Friday against sixth-seeded Saint Francis (Pa.) at the Mercer County (N.J.) Tennis Center at 11:30 a.m.

Viebrock beat Paola Radolfi, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles, but the Bobcats were defeated at the remaining singles flights to account for the 5-1 margin. Doubles was not played due to a threat of rain.

Mary Wilson (Greensburg, Pa.) fell at No. 1 to Nini Lagvilava, 6-3, 6-4, while Rachel Cantor forced three sets in defeat to Anna Pieschl, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2. Prerana Apineni defeated Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.), 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3, while Natalie Duckor (North Tustin, Calif.) was blanked at No. 5 by Aylin Mehter, 6-0, 6-0. Gayatri Krishnan rounded out the victory for the Seawolves with a 6-2, 6-4, victory over Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany).
