QU Duos Win Top Two Flights At Sacred Heart Doubles Invitational

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's tennis duos of Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.)/Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.) and Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.)/Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) won the top two flights at the season-opening Sacred Heart Doubles Invitational Saturday.

Cantor and Markison defeated duos from Sacred Heart, UConn and Hartford in round-robin play of the top flight, before taking down Sacred Heart and Providence in the semifinals and finals, respectively.

Labarthe and Viebrock defeated pairs from Bryant, Sacred Heart and UConn in round robin play of the No. 2 flight, before defeating Providence in the semifinals and Sacred Heart in the finals.

Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany), Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) and Erin Suvar (North Massapequa, N.Y.) took part in the No. 3 singles flight. Steinert and Cristescu defeated Providence, 8-6, before falling to Fairfield, 8-7 (5). Steinert then paired with Suvar to defeat Hartford, 8-0, before falling to Bryant, 8-3.

The Bobcats return to action Friday, when they play host to the Quinnipiac Invitational. Matches are set to begin at 3 p.m.
