Women's Tennis Defeats Fordham, 6-1
HAMDEN, Conn. - Five Bobcats earned double wins as the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team defeated Fordham, 6-1, Saturday afternoon on the QU Indoor Tennis Courts. Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.), Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.), Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany) and Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) each won their singles and doubles matches to help the Bobcats (1-3) earn their first team victory of 2010-11. The loss drops Fordham to 1-6.
Cantor paired with Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.) to defeat Mia Fiocca and Angelica Dabu, 8-7 (7-5), at No. 1 doubles, before earning a 6-3, 6-1, victory against Dabu at No. 1 singles.
Labarthe and Viebrock combined on an 8-2 No. 2 doubles win against Hanna Fritzinger and Bethany Boyle. Labarthe then outlasted Fiocca, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, at No. 3 singles, while Viebrock defeated Sarah Tremaine, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.
Steinert and Cristescu defeated Jennifer Mullen and Tremaine, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles. Steinert then cruised past Boyle, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 singles, while Cristescu won her No. 6 singles match, 6-3, 6-1, against Mullen.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, Feb. 26, when they travel to Amherst, Mass., to take on the University of Massachusetts. First serve is slated for 12:30 p.m.
