Juliet Labarthe Earns Fifth NEC Rookie of the Week, Second Player of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University freshman Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) has been named the Northeast Conference Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week, the league office today announced. The freshman has now won five NEC Rookie of the Week Awards, and two player of the week honors. She closes to within one honor of teammate Rachel Cantor's (Short Hills, N.J.) record of six NEC Rookie of the Week Awards, and becomes the first freshman to win two NEC Player of the Week honors. Labarthe posted an unblemished week, going 4-0 to improve her season record to 26-6.

Labarthe's four wins pushed her winning streak to 10 straight matches, including five each in singles and doubles. She barely broke a sweat at No. 3 singles, defeating Northern Iowa's Lara Okicki, 6-3, 6-0, and Western Illinois' Amy Unzicker, 6-0, 6-2.

She also paired with Sarah Viebrock to defeat Northern Iowa's Jessica Kunzelmann and Krissy Lankelma, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles, before the pair got bumped up to No. 1, where they thumped Marcela Brandao and Jill Furlong, 8-0. On the season, the freshman ended the week with a remarkable 13-3 mark in both singles and doubles.
