Juliet Labarthe Earns Sixth NEC Player of the Week, Third Rookie Honor
Labarthe has now tied teammate Rachel Cantor's (Short Hills, N.J.) record of six NEC Rookie of the Week Awards, and becomes the first Quinnipiac freshman to win three NEC Player of the Week honors. Labarthe posted a 4-2 week to improve her season record to 30-8, just 10 wins behind the QU freshman record of 40 held by Mary Wilson '10 with nine regular-season matches remaining on the Bobcats' schedule. (Editor's Note: Labarthe earned her 31st and 32nd wins of the season in today's match against Hofstra.)
Labarthe posted another unblemished week in singles, going 3-0, to push her winning streak to eight straight singles victories. She introduced herself to the Quinnipiac/Long Island rivalry with a 7-5, 6-2, victory against Taysha Blessington at No. 3 singles, before taking victories in the same flight against Washington University's Betsy Edershile (6-1, 6-0) and Oklahoma Baptist's Mariana Rosa (6-1, 6-4).
Labarthe went 1-2 on the week with doubles partner Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.), defeating Oklahoma Baptist's Rosa and Diana Barns, 8-2, at No. 2. The duo lost once each at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, both by 8-5 margins.
