FAIRFIELD, Conn. - All six Quinnipiac women's tennis players earned double wins as the Bobcats swept intrastate Northeast Conference rival Sacred Heart, 7-0, Thursday afternoon on the SHU Tennis Courts. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 10-8, including an unblemished 4-0 in the NEC. Sacred Heart falls to 10-6 (3-3 NEC).
Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) combined at No. 1 doubles to defeat Gabi Kaldan and Darcy Demers, 8-4. Making a statement against the player who unseated her after four consecutive weeks as NEC Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Labarthe cruised past Kaldan, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. The wins also gave her 40 for the year, tying Mary Wilson '10 for the most as a freshman at Quinnipiac at Division I. Viebrock completed her double win with a 6-1, 6-2, win against Demers.
Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Adrienne Markison (Princeton, N.J.) breezed past Elizabeth Harrington and Kristina Chao, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. Cantor then won her No. 1 singles match against Kate Donnelly, 6-2, 6-2, while Markison won at No. 2, 7-5, 6-0, against Harrington.
Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany) and Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) paired on an 8-5 victory against Donnelly and Delaney Downing at No. 3 doubles. Steinert then beat Chao, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 singles, while Cristescu got past Downing, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 6.
The Bobcats return to action Monday, when they get a final tune-up for the NEC Tournament at Villanova. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
