Women's Tennis Blanks Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-0, In NEC Quarterfinals
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Lisanne Steinert (Glauchau, Germany) and Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) earned double victories as the top-seeded Quinnipiac women's tennis team defeated eighth-seeded Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-0, in Friday's Northeast Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. With the win, the Bobcats (12-8, 5-0 NEC) advance to face fourth-seeded Sacred Heart in the semifinals on Saturday after 2 p.m. The Red Flash ends its season at 4-15 (3-3 NEC).
Steinert and Cristescu paired at No. 3 doubles to defeat Abigail Derby and Jennifer Mueller, 8-0. Steinert then raced past Derby, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, while Cristescu also blanked Mueller, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6.
The Bobcats picked up the doubles point with Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Adrienne Markison's (Princeton, N.J.) 8-0 victory at No. 2 against Laura Husband and Beza Dejene. Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Sarah Viebrock's (Carmel, N.Y.) No. 1 doubles match was halted with the Bobcats leading, 5-3.
Viebrock defeated Dejene, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles, while the other three matches were halted with the Bobcats leading. Cantor led Devynn Sarver, 6-1, 2-0, when the No. 1 singles match was stopped, while Markison was cruising past Alex Foty, 6-0, 4-0, when it was halted. Labarthe was just a point away from clinching her match against Husband, 6-0, 5-0, when it was stopped.
