Women's Tennis Draws UCLA In NCAA Tournament
HAMDEN, Conn. - 2011 Northeast Conference Women's Tennis Champion Quinnipiac University has drawn UCLA in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the NCAA announced in a selection show seen on NCAA.com Tuesday evening. The Bobcats, making their sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last eight years, return to Los Angeles after taking part in the 2007 NCAA Tournament at UCLA. The Bruins and Bobcats will square off on Saturday, May 14 at 3 p.m. (ET)/12 p.m. (PT).
"Our players are thrilled with the selection of UCLA," said Quinnipiac Head Coach Michael Quitko. "We went there in 2007 and had a wonderful experience. We look forward to competing with one of the proudest women's tennis programs in the nation."
In five prior NCAA Tournament appearances, the Bobcats have traveled to Stanford twice (2004, 2006), Georgia (2005), UCLA (2007) and Miami (Fla.) (2008). Quinnipiac won the 2011 NEC Championship with tournament victories against Saint Francis (Pa.), Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson. Quitko earned his eighth NEC Coach of the Year Award while coaching freshman Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) to NEC Rookie of the Year honors. All six players in the Quinnipiac line-up earned All-NEC recognition under Quitko this season.
