HAMDEN, Conn. – Three members of the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team won their singles' match-ups on Tuesday afternoon, but the Bobcats dropped a difficult, 4-3, decision to UConn at the Quinnipiac Outdoor Tennis Courts.
In doubles' action, freshman Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) defeated UConn's Alexa Gregory and Marie Gargiulo in the second pairing, 8-5. The tandems of sophomore Juliet Labarthe (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and junior Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) and sophomore Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) were defeated in the No. 1 and No. 3 pairings, 8-4 and 8-3, respectively.
The Bobcats fared better in singles' play, taking three out of the six match-ups. Labarthe knocked off Jennifer Learmonth, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0, Raynor swept Maxene Weinberg, 6-1, 6-2, and Launie outlasted Lauren Wilmarth in a tie-break, 10-8.
The Bobcats return to the court this weekend with the ITA Regionals at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn. All the action begins at 9 a.m.
