Women's Tennis Falls To Non-Conference Foe Rutgers, 7-0
MANASQUANIN, N.J. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team was defeated by Rutgers University, 7-0, on Friday afternoon at the Atlantic Club in Manasquanin, N.J. The Bobcats couldn't overcome the quick start from the hosting Scarlet Knights, resulting in their second loss of the campaign. RU remained perfect with the triumph, improving to 3-0 on the young season.
Freshman Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) put forth the best effort, nearly granting the Bobcats a point in singles play. Launie took the first set, 6-4, dropped the second frame, 6-1, and then proceeded to fall in the tie-break (10).
In doubles' action, Launie and Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) battled Stefania Balasa and Noor Judeh in the most exciting match between the two teams. The Bobcat duo built a 7-5 lead in the match, before the contest was called short.
The women's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 26 with its Northeast Conference opener against Saint Francis (Pa.). All the action begins at 9 a.m. at the Quinnipiac University Tennis Courts.
