Navy Tops Women's Tennis, 5-2

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Junior Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) won both of her match-ups on Tuesday morning, but the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team was defeated by Navy, 5-2, at Poinciana High School in Kissimmee, Fla. For the second consecutive day, the Bobcats earned a point in the doubles' segment, however couldn't prevail in singles' play.

With the loss, QU dropped to 2-5 through the first portion of a daunting 2012 schedule. The Midshipmen continued their stellar start to the season, improving to 12-1 thus far. Navy recently had an 11 game winning streak snapped by George Washington.

The Bobcats opened competition with a strong showing in doubles' play. Cantor and her partner Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) defeated Emani Decquir and Stefanie Ton, 8-5 in No. 1, while Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) topped Erin Snook and Gabby Winter, 8-5, in No. 2. The Midshipmen were triumphant in the last doubles' clash, but the Bobcats had already earned the point.

Unfortunately, Navy bounced back in singles' play and took five out of the six available points. Cantor collected the lone victory for the Bobcats, outlasting Darien Sears, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, in the No. 1 heat.

The Bobcats return to action Thursday, when they take on Bucknell at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
