Women's Tennis Suffers Setback At Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0
TEANECK, N.J. – Juniors Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) improved to 8-1 in doubles competition this season, but the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team was swept by Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0, at the FDU Tennis Center in Teaneck, N.J.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 4-8 overall, 1-2 in the Northeast Conference. The Knights, now triumphant in six straight matches, improve to 11-5, 1-0 in league play.
Cantor and Viebrock granted the Bobcats a win in the doubles segment, as the duo knocked off Anna Rapoport and Irina Dementyeva, 8-6, in the No. 1 flight. Unfortunately, the Bobcats couldn't convert in the No. 2 and No. 3 match-ups, leaving the Knights with an early 1-0 lead.
FDU then maintained its edge in singles competition, taking all six flights in the contest. Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) put forth the best effort for the Bobcats, however fell short in a tie-break, 4-6, 6-1 (10-5).
Fairleigh Dickinson travels to Hofstra on April 4th for its next match. First set is set for 3 p.m. in Hampstead, N.Y.
The Bobcats are back in action against Fordham on Sunday afternoon. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. For all information regarding the women's tennis program, please visit www.QuinnipiacBobcats.com.
