STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Freshmen Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) won in No. 2 doubles on Saturday afternoon, but the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team was defeated by Stony Brook University, 6-1, at the University Tennis Courts in Stony Brook, N.Y.
With the loss, the Bobcats descend to 7-10 overall on the season. The Seawolves extended their winning streak to three matches, improving to 9-6 for the year.
In their first time pairing together, Raynor and Launie fared well for the Bobcats in No. 2 doubles. The New York/Massachusetts duo topped Salome Mkervalidze and Katherine Hanson, 8-4, in search for the match's first point. However, the Seawolves prevailed in No. 1 and No. 3 to taking an early 1-0 lead.
After the intermission, Stony Brook was terrific in singles competition. Junior Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) put forth the best effort for Quinnipiac, but fell 7-6 (2), 6-4, to Hanson in No. 3. Junior Erin Suvar (North Massapequa, N.Y.) was credited with the lone Bobcats' point via default in No. 6.
