WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team put forth a dominating performance in the Northeast Conference Semifinals on Saturday afternoon, as the #2 seeded Bobcats topped #3 Sacred Heart, 4-0, to advance to the championship match tomorrow. The Bobcats will take on the winner of the top bracket between #4 LIU Brooklyn and #1 Fairleigh Dickinson.
Quinnipiac, now 10-11 overall and winners in three straight, took an early lead with a clean sweep in doubles. Juniors Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) defeated Kate Donnelly and Kristina Chao, 8-0, in No. 1 and Lavinia Cristescu (West Hartford, Conn.) and Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) defeated Gabi Kaldan and Haley Dubits, 8-2, in No. 3 for the point. Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) were also leading in the No. 2 flight, but did not complete the match.
In the singles portion, Quinnipiac once again won or led in all six matches. Dassa defeated Chao, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 4, Launie defeated Kristin Legenza, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 5, and Cristescu defeated Dubits, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 6. In the top three flights, Cantor was leading Kaldan, 6-2, 2-3, in No. 1, Raynor was leading Nicole Rydzewski, 7-6 (7-3), 0-1, in No. 2 and Viebrock was leading Donnelly, 6-3, 1-1, in No. 3.
