Rachel Cantor and Sarah Viebrock to Serve as Women's Tennis Team Captains

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University women's tennis head coach Mike Quitko has announced that seniors Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) will serve as the team captains for the 2013 campaign. Since their freshman year back in 2009, the senior duo has combined for 222 career wins and a 34-13 record when playing together in doubles.

"I'm very pleased to announce that Rachel and Sarah will serve as captains of this year's women's tennis team," said Quitko. "They are natural leaders who have always had the respect of their teammates and can be relied upon for support and guidance. I look forward to their senior season and hope that they can experience another NCAA Tournament before they graduate."

Cantor, the 2010 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, has amassed 107 career wins at Quinnipiac – placing her in a two-way tie for 13th place all-time and 10th through the Division I era. Cantor is a two-time All-NEC award winner which includes First Team honors at No. 2 singles in her inaugural season. Last year, Cantor posted a career-high 35 wins, compiling 24 in doubles and 11 in singles. This past fall, Cantor reached the 100-win plateau to become the 16th player in QU history to accomplish the feat. She was 14-8 through four tournaments and a dual match against St. Francis Brooklyn.

Fellow classmate and close friend, Sarah Viebrock, will join Cantor in leading the women's tennis team in the spring. Viebrock has compiled 115 career wins at Quinnipiac, which is good enough 12th place all-time and ninth through the Division I era. Viebrock is a two-time All-NEC award winner – including back-to-back First Team accolades at No. 3 singles. Last season, Viebrock posted a team-best 37 wins, 22 in doubles and 15 in singles, which follows a career-best 38 wins in 2010-11. She was 13-7 this past fall and now sits four wins behind Danielle Rautenberg '04 (119) on the all-time list.    

The Bobcats resume competition on February 17th with a non-conference match against Albany. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point, N.Y.
