Women's Tennis Suffers First Setback of the 2013 Season; Falls to UMass, 6-1

AMHERST, Mass. – Senior captain Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) collected her 109th career victory on Sunday afternoon, but the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team endured its first setback of the 2013 season with a 6-1 loss to UMass at Bay Road Club in Amherst, Mass.

After consecutive dual-match wins, Quinnipiac suffered its first loss and fell to 2-1 on the season. The hosting Minutewomen improved to 7-2 – bouncing back after a 6-1 loss to Dartmouth on Wednesday afternoon.

UMass jumped in front early by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) earned their 31st career victory when playing together with an 8-7 at No. 2; but the Minutewomen edged the Bobcats in the other two matches.

UMass mustered similar success in singles competition; with the exception of one match. Cantor defeated Yuliana Moytl, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 - which served as the lone point for Quinnipiac. The win was nothing short of impressive considering Motyl's success in the fall season. Motyl won the top flight at the West Point Invitational back in September.
