Women's Tennis Defeats NEC Foe Sacred Heart, 6-1

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team improved to 3-1 in Northeast Conference play with a convincing 6-1 victory over Sacred Heart on Friday afternoon at the Pioneer Tennis Courts in Fairfield, Conn. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 8-6 overall, picking up career win No. 497 for head coach Mike Quitko - leaving him just three shy of 500 for his career.

For the sixth straight match, the Bobcats opened with a strong showing in doubles to earn the first point of the match. Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) picked up their 43rd career victory when paired together with an 8-3 win at No. 1; Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) collected their 38th win when playing together at No. 2; and Mary Chupa (Bradenton, Fla.) and Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) clinched the sweep with an 8-0 win at No. 3.

Quinnipiac solidified its eighth win of the season by winning five out of the six available points at singles. Cantor topped Gabi Kaldan, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1 for her 51st career win in singles. Raynor won her fourth straight at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Katie DeRienzo and Viebrock claimed her 61st career win by defeating Nicole Rydzewski at No. 3. Dassa captured Quinnipiac's fifth point at No. 4 and Launie defeated Alyssa Migliorini, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6.

With the loss, Sacred Heart fell to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the Northeast Conference. Quinnipiac is 10-0 in their last 10 meetings, which includes a 3-0 mark in the NEC Tournament.

Quinnipiac is back in action on Sunday, April 7 with a big test against Temple University. The Atlantic-10 foe heads to Hamden for an 11 a.m. tilt at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
