Women's Tennis Drops Non-Conference Match to Temple, 5-2

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team claimed the doubles point for the seventh straight match on Sunday afternoon, but it was the Temple Owls who battled back to win five points in singles and prevail with a 5-2 victory at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

With the loss, Quinnipiac dropped to 8-7 on the season and are now 0-3 against Atlantic-10 opponents. The visiting Owls improved to 6-12 in the 2012-13 campaign.

Quinnipiac started strong, winning two out of the three points at doubles for the 1-0 lead. Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) tallied career win No. 44 when playing together with an 8-5 decision at No. 1; and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) solidified the point with an 8-2 victory at No. 2.

However, led by 2012 Atlantic-10 All-Conference representatives Jordan Batey, Yana Mavrina and Alicia Doms, Temple proved to be too much for the Bobcats. Batey, Mavrina and Doms each won at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles, with Rebecca Breland and Maame Ama Osei claiming victories at No. 4 and No. 5. Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) collected the lone win for the Bobcats, the 25th (singles) of her career, with a 7-5, 6-0 decision at No. 6.
