Raynor, Dzulynsky Advance to Flight A Doubles Finals; Two Bobcats in Singles Semifinals

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The sensational tandem of Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Fla.) advanced to the finals of Flight A Doubles on Saturday afternoon, as the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team took part in day two of the Army Invitational in West Point, N.Y. Dzulynsky and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) also continued their stellar play in singles action as well, reaching the semifinals of their respective flights.

Raynor and Dzulynsky improved to 6-3 when playing together with a convincing 8-2 win over Army's Brenna Keller and Jamila Paul. The six-point triumph in the semifinals earned them a spot in the championship match against another duo from Army, Elle and Della Taylor, which is set for tomorrow morning. The Taylor sisters defeated Sydney Young and Rachel Horton (Stamford, Conn.), 8-4, in the bottom half of the bracket to advance to the finals.

Singles competition resumed after the semifinal rounds in doubles, with eight Bobcats competing in main draws. Dzulynsky picked up where she left off in the QU Invite, collecting two straight wins to advance to the semifinals of Flight A. After a win in the second round over Della Taylor (Army), Dzulynsky ousted the No. 3 seed, Audrey O'Connor of Illinois, 6-2, 1-6, 10-4, in the quarterfinals.

Young joined Dzulynsky with a spot in the semifinals after wins against Destiny Grunin (Fordham) and Becky Sheilkind (Stony Brook). Young defeated Grunin, 6-0, 3-6, 10-1, and then knocked off Sheilkind, 7-5, 6-1, to advance to the Flight C Semifinals.

Raynor and Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) served as the only other Bobcats to earn a win in main draw. Raynor topped Seton Hall's Chloe Sher, 6-4, 6-4, in the second round, but was later eliminated by Army's Jamila Paul, despite a valiant comeback effort. She fell short by a final count of 6-2, 4-6, 10-6. Launie defeated Army's Carly Riney in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, before falling to Shea Flanagan, 6-0, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

Horton, Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta), Nicole Keklik (Stratford, Conn.) and Daniella Reyes (Burr Ridge, Ill.) also took part in main draws for the Bobcats, but fell in their first matches of the day. Horton and Oliphant did however manage to pick up wins in consolation play. Horton defeated opponents from Saint Peter's (Vanessa Vogel: 8-2) and Albany (Kirsten Scott: 8-4); and Oliphant added a win against Marist's Lisa Ventimiglia, 8-5.

The Army Invite continues tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. with the semifinals of singles, followed by the finals of doubles, and then capped off by the finals of singles.
