Women’s Tennis Drops Home-Opener to UConn, 5-2

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team earned the doubles' point for the 11th straight regular season match on Tuesday afternoon, but it was the UConn Huskies who prevailed with a 5-2 victory at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts on Mount Carmel Campus. The Bobcats celebrated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink shirts during the contest.

Quinnipiac took an early 1-0 lead in its home-opener after taking two out of three doubles matches from the Huskies. Teaming up for the first time since last year, Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) reunited at No. 2 doubles and earned their 42nd career win when playing together. They knocked off Emma Alderman and Lucy Nutting, 8-3; while the freshmen duo of Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) and Rachel Horton (Stamford, Conn.) solidified the point with an 8-3 victory at No. 1.

However, the Bobcats garnered just one more point during the singles segment which resulted in a three-point triumph for the visiting Huskies. Young collected the second point for Quinnipiac, when she defeated Maxie Weinberg in a third set tie-break, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. It marked the 15th win of her young career.
