EDISON, N.J. – Entering its first season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team was selected as the favorite to win the MAAC Championship in 2013, announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014.
Quinnipiac, who came within one point of their eighth Northeast Conference Championship last year, received 78 points in the preseason poll. Led by 23rd-year head coach Mike Quitko, an eight-time NEC Coach of the Year, the Bobcats look to continue their dominance in their new conference this season. Quinnipiac has earned a trip to the conference championship match in seven of the last eight seasons, which includes four championship titles.
This year's rendition of the Quinnipiac women's tennis team is led by 2013 All-NEC first team selections Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.J.), Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.). The Bobcats also bring along a highly touted recruiting class of transfer Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Fla.) and freshmen Sydney Young (Austin, Texas), Rachel Horton (Stamford, Conn.) and Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta). Mary Chupa (Bradenton, Fla.) will lead the group as the lone senior on the squad.
