WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback to Patriot League power Army at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. It was Quinnipiac's final match before the squad heads down south for its annual Spring Break trip.
Army, who earned an at-large bid into the 2013 NCAA Tournament last year, found success in both doubles and singles against the Bobcats. The Black Knights captured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, when Jemila Paul and Carolyn Pitman defeated Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) and Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Fla.), 8-4; and Nancy Porter and Margaret Iliev defeated Mary Chupa (Bradenton, Fla.) and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas), 8-6.
The singles portion featured similar results with the exception of No. 4 singles. Oliphant survived in a third-set tie-breaker to defeat Della Taylor, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9, for the lone Bobcat point. Army swept the other matches in straight sets.
With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 2-5 on the season. Army improved to 13-1, picking up a second win on the day against Marist.
