MANCHESTER, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team returned to its winning ways on Wednesday afternoon, as the Bobcats defeated Fairfield University, 6-1, at the Manchester Racquet Club.
Quinnipiac improved to 3-7 on the year, and snapped a four-game slide with the convincing win. The Bobcats also moved to 2-0 in conference play, and left Fairfield (4-5) with its first MAAC loss of the 2013-14 season (1-1).
Like clockwork, Quinnipiac jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by way of the doubles point. Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Fla.) and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) earned the first point with an 8-3 decision over Monica Yajima and Carolina Koladzyn, which was followed by consecutive victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) picked up career win No. 45 when paired together at No. 2, and Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) and Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) topped Allison Radde and Kaila Nelson at No. 3 (8-4).
In singles, the Bobcats won at Nos. 2-6 while dominating the Hawks in the bottom half of the lineup. Young, Oliphant and Launie each won in straight sets to claim multiple wins on the day. Young defeated Koladzyn, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4; Oliphant topped Nelson, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5; and reigning MAAC Player of the Week, Launie, defeated Victoria Pirrello, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 6.
Quinnipiac also fared well in the top half of the lineup with Raynor and Dassa picking up hard-fought victories. For Raynor, her 7-6 (5), 7-5 victory over Ryan was the 99th of her career. Dassa claimed No. 80 with a 6-7 (2), 6-2, 10-5 win over Radde at No. 3.

The Quinnipiac women's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, March 22 as part of a doubleheader on Mount Carmel Campus. The Bobcats host former NEC foe Bryant University at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The women's team will play at 11 a.m. with the men's match to follow at 2 p.m.
