HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team became the first team to clinch a spot in the MAAC Tournament Championships on Wednesday afternoon, as the Bobcats defeated Marist College, 5-2, at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Winners in four of its last five matches now, Quinnipiac (7-10) improved to 5-0 in league play, serving as the only undefeated team remaining in conference play. With the loss, Marist (3-6) fell to 2-3 in conference play and is currently on the outside looking into the tournament.
Nothing new for the Bobcats, Quinnipiac captured the first point of the match with three straight wins at doubles. Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) finished up first with an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles, collecting their 52nd career win in the process. Mary Chupa (Bradenton, Fla.) and Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) clinched the point with an 8-4 win at No. 3; and Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Fla.) and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) battled back from a 5-2 deficit to win 8-5 at No. 1.
Quinnipiac proceeded to secure the victory in singles, winning at No. 2, 4, 5, and 6. Raynor picked up her 110th career win with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Callie Morlock at No. 2; Young defeated Melissa Carlay, 6-0, 6-2, for her 31st career win at No. 4; Oliphant claimed her team-leading 14th win of the season at No. 5; and Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) wrapped up the match with a straight-set victory over Katie Seitz at No. 6 – picking up her 77th career win.

Quinnipiac is back in action on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 with a pair of home matches at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. Friday's match features an in-state showdown against the Hartford Hawks (3 PM), while Saturday's clash portrays two of the MAAC's better teams when Quinnipiac takes on Niagara at 10 a.m. The Bobcats will honor their lone senior class member in Mary Chupa prior to the match at 9:30 a.m.
