HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's indoor track team was selected to finish seventh in the 2009-10 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Bobcats ended the 2008-09 season with a seventh-place showing at the conference championship meet. Defending champion Monmouth earned the top spot in the poll with nine first-place votes, while Long Island landed second with two first-place nods after being edged by the Hawks for the conference title last season. Sacred Heart rounded out the top three with one-first place vote.
"The women are excited to start their track season," said Head Coach Carolyn Martin. "We are looking forward to many personal bests over the course of the season with continued improvement at each meet."
Mount St. Mary's, Saint Francis (PA) and Robert Morris occupy the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively. In seventh place, Quinnipiac sits ahead of teams from Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, Central Connecticut, Bryant with St. Francis (NY) rounding out the poll's 12 spots.
Quinnipiac began its season Dec. 5 at the Yale Season Opener in a meet that saw sophomore Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) win the 5K race. The Bobcats will run next the Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic on Jan. 9, 2010. The meet will begin at 9 a.m., from Coxe Cage in New Haven.
