HAMDEN, Conn. – Freshman Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University women’s indoor track and field team was named Northeast Conference Women’s Rookie Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday evening.
Stabile picks up her first NEC weekly honor of her rookie campaign after representing Quinnipiac in the 800-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay at the 2012 Boston University Terrier Invitational on Friday, Jan. 27. The first-year Bobcat competed against 80 runners in the 800-meter field, where she placed 19th in 2:16.27 to move into fourth place on the NEC performance list and into the top spot amongst conference rookies. Stabile’s time was not only fewer than two seconds off a school record, but an ECAC Championship qualifying standard, as well.
The Haverhill, Mass. native also represented Quinnipiac in the 4x400-meter relay, which finished in 25th overall with a time of 4:17.90.
The Bobcats return to action when they compete at the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Leverone Fieldhouse in Hanover, N.H.
