LANDOVER, Md. – The Quinnipiac University women's indoor track and field team placed seventh after competing in the final day of the 2012 Northeast Conference Championships on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex. The Bobcats' performances were highlighted in the 5k as junior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) won the event with a time of 17:35.50 for All-NEC honors. Overall, the women from Monmouth University took the 2012 title.
"I was happy with the team's performance this weekend," said Head Coach Carolyn Martin. "Everyone put in a great effort and it was exciting to see us score in every distance event. I'm hoping we can continue to improve during the outdoor season."
Sophomore Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) also scored in the 5,000-meter run as she finished in seventh place with a time of 18:21.03. Additionally, Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) represented QU in the event with a 14th-place finish in 18:46.05.
Freshman Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) competed in the 800-meter finals, where she placed fifth in 2:17.88, while sophomore Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) ran in the finals of the one-mile run, also placing fifth with a time of 5:05.90. Both Bobcats added to Quinnipiac's final score of 33 points with the fifth-place finishes.
QU scored in the distance medley relay as the Bobcats placed fourth with a combined time of 12:19.42. Soja ran the first leg of the relay, while freshen Katy Petrie (Cranston, R.I.) and Stabile followed in the second and third positions, respectively. Senior Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) rounded out the four Bobcats in the final spot.
On Saturday in the first day of the NEC Championships, the Bobcats earned eight points in the 3,000-meter run. White paced Quinnipiac with a fourth-place finish in 9:55.75, while Roche placed sixth overall with a time of 10:03.95.
Quinnipiac returns to action when it competes at the New England Championships on Feb. 24-25 at the Boston University Fitness & Recreation Center in Boston, Mass.
