Women's Indoor Track Competes In First Day Of New Englands
BOSTON, Mass. – The Quinnipiac University women's indoor track and field team competed in the first day of the 2012 New England Indoor Championships at Boston University on Friday, Feb. 24.
"We really saw a lot of great racing," said Head Coach Carolyn Martin. "I think that the first couple of races set the tone for the rest of the meet. We really couldn't have asked more from the team, as several girls ran PRs and season bests. I'm looking forward to tomorrow and hoping we can keep the momentum going."
The Bobcats saw three runners participate in the 5,000-meter run. Freshman Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) ran a personal-best as she placed ninth overall in 17:47.40. Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) followed with a season-best time of 18:07.50, while Kelly Malloy (Sewell, N.J.) also set a PR with a time of 18:48.50 in the 5k.
Quinnipiac placed eighth in the distance medley relay (DMR) as the team finished in 12:13.76 overall. Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.), Katy Petrie (Cranston, R.I.), Rebecca Smith (Hamburg, N.J.) and Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) represented QU in the event.
Petrie also ran in the 500-meter run where she set a personal record with a time of 1:21.87. Two Bobcats competed in the 800-meters, including Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) who finished third in her heat at 2:17.48, followed by Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) who crossed the finish line in 2:21.44.
The Bobcats will also run in the second day of the New England's on Saturday, Feb. 25. QU will compete in the one-mile run, the 3k, 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
