New England Championships Official Day One Results

BOSTON, Mass. – The illustrious 2012-13 Quinnipiac women's indoor track team continued their unthinkable run on Friday as three more school records fell by the wasteside in day one action at the New England Championships hosted by Boston University. Freshman Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Conn.) dazzled in the 400m, junior Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) shined in the 500m and the distance medley team on Friday recorded the first sub-12 minute time in program history. With three more records falling, the Bobcats' run their season total to 19 records broken this season in eight different events.

"Honestly the girls ran one of their best meets of the season today," said Quinnipiac women's indoor track head coach Carolyn Martin, who was named NEC Women's Indoor Track Coach of the Year on Thursday. "They were all on their game today. I was so impressed with all the positive energy throughout the competition today. This is the biggest group we've ever brought to New Englands and for us to do as well as we did in the shorter events really shows how far we've come this season."

Samuels, the reigning Quinnipiac Female Athlete of the Month, qualified for the finals on Saturday with her record-breaking time of 56.72 seconds in the 400m. She bested her own previous school record of 56.77 seconds established earlier this season at the Terrier Invite on Jan. 25.

Rebecca Stabile continued the Bobcats' dominance on Friday with a time record-breaking time of 1:14.57 in the 500m. It marked the second time this season that Rebecca has broken the school record as Friday's time bests her previous record of 1:15.91 from the Jay Carisella Invitational back on Dec. 1, 2012. Her time also moves Rebecca onto the finals in the 500m tomorrow.

The third and final school record to fall on Friday came from the distance medley relay team of senior Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.), sophomore Sam Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.), senior Jill Humphreys (Burlington, Mass.) and senior Becca White (Natick, Mass.). The foursome combined for a time of 11:59.06 as they all helped become the first group to ever break 12 minutes in the event. The previous school record of 12:00.62 had stood since March 4, 2007 at the ECAC Championships.

Quinnipiac also performed very well in the 800m as all five Bobcat runners posted either season-bests and/or personal bests in the event. Freshman Medinah Nabadduka (2:17.63), senior Hannah Donadio (2:18.22), freshman Chelsea Savage (2:18.31), sophomore Katy Petrie (2:19.53) and junior Valerie Zielinski (2:22.47) were among the Bobcats who posted stellar times in the 800m. Graduate student Martha Santandreu (Hamburg, N.Y.) also highlighted the Bobcats' effort with a season-best run in the 5000m.

Day two will feature the finals of all the shorter events including Samuels and Rebecca Stabile in the 400m and 500m, respectively. The Bobcats will also look to score big in the longer distance events including the 4 x 400m relay, 4 x 800m relay, one mile run and 3000m from Boston University tomorrow.
