Shameal Samuels Finishes 6th in 400m, Distance Medley Relay Places 11th at ECAC Championships in Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – The Quinnipiac women's indoor track and field team wrapped up their 2013-14 campaign with another program-first as sophomore Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Conn.) became the first Bobcat in the Division I era to place in an event at the ECAC Championships. In a regional event pitting the best competitors from around the Eastern College Athletic Conference, Samuels picked up a 6th place finish in the 400m to help rewrite the Quinnipiac record books. The Bobcats conclude their 2013-14 season with new program records in the 60m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 500m, 800m, 1000m, long jump, triple jump, DMR, and 4x400m relay and were also named New England Champions in the 400m and 4x400m relay for the first time in program history.

Samuels starred once again for the Bobcats on Sunday as she picked up a 6th place finish in the 400m finals from the Boston University Track Center. After advancing with a time of 55.15 seconds on Saturday in the preliminaries, Samuels recorded a time of 55.20 seconds in the finals to earn the 6th place result. The time was good enough for the second-fastest among all underclassmen competing in the event as one of the nation's Top 10 fastest sophomores in the 400m closed out her transformative season with another program-first. She earned three points after becoming the first Quinnipiac athlete to place in an individual event that draws the best talent from around the Eastern region of the country.

The only other Bobcat squad in competition on Sunday was the distance medley team of senior Jess Soja (Simsbury, Conn.), freshman Cori Reid (Old Saybrook, Conn.), junior Katy Petire (Cranston, R.I.) and sophomore Chelsea Savage (Pembroke, Mass.) combined for a time of 12:00.48 for an 11th place finish. They crossed the line with the fourth-fastest DMR time in program history and earn the respectable finish amongst a field that included the likes of Boston College, Rutgers and Cornell.

The Bobcats wrap up their most successful season in program history and will carry a ton of momentum into the outdoor season that kicks off on Friday, March 28 with the Fred Hardy Invite from the University of Richmond.
