BOSTON - The Quinnipiac University women's track team competed in the first day of the New England Championships hosted by Northeastern Friday afternoon. Senior Lindsey Pierret (Morristown, N.J.) highlighted the meet for the Bobcats with a third-place showing in the 10,000-meter race. Pierret posted a season-best time of 37:44 to finish third in the event.
Three more runners competed on Friday for Quinnipiac, all in the 5,000 meters. Freshman Becca White (Natick, Mass.) was fourth in the event with a personal-best time of 17:12.22. Sophomore Morgan Roche was the second Quinnipiac runner in the 5K. Her time of 17:35 was good for ninth place. Fellow sophomore Katie Beam (South Windsor, Conn.) was the third member of the team in the event. Beam won the unseeded heat in which she was running, crossing the line with a new personal best of 18:07.
"I am thrilled we had a few of season and personal bests," Head Coach Carolyn Martin said. "I couldn't have asked for a better day between the weather and how well the team ran. I look forward to another great day tomorrow."
Quinnipiac will run in two events on Saturday afternoon. Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) and Andrea Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) will represent the Bobcats in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Jeana Favat (Gibbsboro, N.J.), Hannah Donadio (Killingworth, Conn.) will join Roche and White to make the 4x800-meter relay team.
