Women's Outdoor Track Competes At Bryant Invitational
Smithfield, R.I. - Junior Julie
Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the
Quinnipiac University women's outdoor track team competed at the
Bryant University Track and Field Invitational on Saturday, April
2.
Quinnipiac was led by Lanning, who took first place in the 3k
steeplechase, with a time of 11:30.88. The meet was also
highlighted in the 5,000-meter run, where sophomore Becca
White (Natick, Mass.) finished in second place in 17:27.28.
The Bobcats also saw good performances in the 1,500-meter run. Morgan
Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished in 10
th place
overall in 4:52.39, while senior Kristen
Stevens (Succasunna, N.J.) placed 12
th in 4:53.85.
Sophomore Andrea
Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) ran the 1,500 meters in 5:01.00,
while fellow sophomore Jill
Humphreys (Burlington, Conn.) finished immediately after
Szarkowicz, in a personal best, 5.01.29.
Sophomore Grace
Harvey (Clinton, N.J.) made her mark in the Quinnipiac's
history books, as she competed in the 100-meter hurdles. Harvey
finished with a time of 18.94 as the first Quinnipiac women's track
athlete to participate in the event. In addition, freshman Renne
Lapierre (Smithfield, R.I.) cleared 4.6 feet in the women's high
jump.
"Overall, I think we had some strong performances today," said
Quinnipiac Head Coach Carolyn
Martin. "We're still trying to get back into racing outside, so
I think within the next couple of weeks we'll be able to see a
better picture of how we should perform at the NEC
Championships."
Quinnipiac returns to action when it participates at the University
of Massachusetts Invitational on Saturday, April 9 in Amherst,
Mass. starting at noon.
