Members of the Quinnipiac University women’s outdoor track and field team competed at the 2012 ECAC and New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships on Friday, May 11. This year’s ECACs were hosted by Princeton University in Princeton, N.J., while the New Englands were held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Mass.
Two Bobcats represented Quinnipiac at this year’s ECAC Championships. Senior Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) ran in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while junior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) participated in the 5,000-meter run. Roche finished the steeplechase in 13th place with a time of 10:56.01, which is a new Quinnipiac record. White placed 20th in 17:13.72 in the 5k.
Freshman standout Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) led the Bobcats in the 400-meter hurdles where she set another school record in 64.29.
Senior Katie Beam (South Windsor, Conn.) ran a season-best 18.43.91 in the 5k, while two runners represented Quinnipiac in the 10,000-meter run. Fellow senior Martha Santandreu (Hamburg, N.Y.) paced the Bobcats in the 10k with a time of 39.19, another season-best, while sophomore Kelly Malloy (Sewell, N.J.) finished the event in a personal-best time, by over a minute and a half, at 39.29.
Quinnipiac returns to action in the final day of competition at the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, May 12. Senior Julie Lanning will run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while sophomore Jessica Soja will compete in the 1,500-meter run. The Bobcats will also participate in the 4x800-meter relay.
