PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Quinnipiac University women's outdoor track team competed at the 2012 Brown Springtime Invitational on Saturday, April 14.
"We had some great performances today, so we were happy with the overall times, especially because we ran people in some events that they are not accustomed to running to help tune them for upcoming meets," said Head Coach Carolyn Martin.
Quinnipiac saw several runners participate in the one-mile run, but was led by junior Becca White (Natick, Mass.), who ran a personal record in the event with a time of 4:54.49 which placed fourth overall. Sophomore Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) followed in 14th place at 5:19.86, while senior Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) finished 20th in 5:28.35.
The Bobcats' performances were also highlighted in the 200-meter run where freshman Samantha Stabile's (Haverhill, Mass.) broke the Quinnipiac record with a time of 26.80. Fellow classmate Nikki Smith (Tewksbury, Mass.) also competed in the event, matching Stabile's time and the QU record of 26.80. Stabile finished in 16th place, immediately followed by Smith with a 17th-place finish.
Stabile also broke a school record in the high jump as she finished in sixth place posting 1.55 meters in the event.
In the 3,000-meter run, Quinnipiac had two runners finish in the top 10. Senior Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) placed ninth in 10:22.67, while sophomore Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) finished 10th overall with a time of 10:33.02.
Quinnipiac will compete in two meets next weekend. After participating at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University on Friday, April 20, the Bobcats will travel to Cambridge, Mass. to race at the MIT Spring Invitational the following day, on Saturday, April 21.
