CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Quinnipiac University women's outdoor track and field team participated at the 2012 MIT Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 21.  The meet was held at the MIT Henry G. Steinbrenner Track.

"It was a really good day," said head coach Carolyn Martin. "A lot of the ladies had some strong races and I think several of them gained confidence at today's meet. It was nice to see the team perform this well as we head into championship part of our season."

Freshman Samantha Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) finished second overall in the 100-meter dash as she broke a Quinnipiac record with a time of 12.92.

In the 800-meter run, QU was represented by junior Becca White (Natick, Mass) and sophomore Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.), who competed against a field of 30 runners. White led the Bobcats as she finished fourth overall in 2:18. 37. Soja followed in the eighth slot at 2:23.86.

The Bobcats saw 10 runners participate in the 1,500-meter run, but were paced by sophomore Brianna Faust's (Macungie, Pa.) fourth-place finish in 4:53.58. QU senior Katie Beam (South Windsor, Conn.) and Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed in the fifth and sixth positions, respectively. Beam finished with a time of 4:54.81, while Morelli crossed the finish line in 4:56.34.

Sophomore Christina Faust (Macungie, Pa.) raced in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where she posted a time of 12:45.05, good for a fourth-place finish. Additionally, fellow classmate Kelly Malloy (Sewell, N.J.) was the only Bobcat to compete in the 5K. Malloy placed third out of eight opponents in 19:35.64.

Quinnipiac freshman Katy Petrie (Cranston, R.I.) represented the team in the 400-meters where she placed 10th overall in 1:03.73.

The Bobcats return to action when two members of the QU squad participate at the 2012 Annual Penn Relays on Thursday, April 26. Senior Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) will run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while White will race in the 5000-meters.

" I'm very excited to see how Morgan and Becca are going to do in those races at the Penn Relays," said Martin.

Quinnipiac will then compete in the 2012 Yale Springtime Invitational on Sunday, April 29. The Bobcats will honor four seniors at the meet, including Amanda Duggan (Waldwick, N.J.), Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.), Kaitie Kelly (Weymouth, Mass.), and Beam.
