HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac outdoor track senior Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was named to the NEC First Team while junior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) was named to the Northeast Conference Second Team, as announced by the Northeast Conference office on Wednesday, May 23.
The NEC First Team is comprised of all first-place finishers in each respective event at the 2012 NEC Championships, while the Second Team is made up of all second-place finishers in that event. Roche won the Steeplechase event with a time of 10:58.29, which broke the previous Northeast Conference record of 11:00.10 set by Central Connecticut State's Katherine Bossardet in 2011.
"Morgan ran a very smart race," head coach Carolyn Martin said. "She was new to the steeple so there was a big learning curve, but she has certainly learned how to use her strengths to run a great race."
White was placed on the second team after finishing second in the 5000 Meter with a time of 17:07.99, which qualified her for the ECAC Championship. The Quinnipiac May Athlete of the Month, White was also named the team's Most Valuable Player after her time in the 5000 Meter was the fastest at Quinnipiac since three-time All-American Kaitlyn Gwyther set the mark of 16:33.09 in 2006.
"Becca had a tough battle the entire way, I was very proud of the way she raced," Martin said. "She never gave up and I think she has learned some valuable information about herself for future racing."
