HAMDEN, Conn. – After one of the most impressive regular seasons in program history, the Quinnipiac women's outdoor track team will be heading to West Long Branch, N.J., the home of Monmouth University, to compete in the Northeast Conference Championships. With 17 record-breaking runs in 12 different events through six meets this season, the Bobcats come into the two-day meet running their best races of the season. Finishing ninth in last year's NEC Championships will certainly motivate this young crew in hopes of continuing their remarkable 2013 campaign.

This current group of Bobcats comes into the championship with an added dimension that the 2012 roster didn't have and that lies in their short distance proficiency. Freshman Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Conn.), the current indoor and outdoor 400m and 200m record holder, will be racing in her signature event, the 400m throughout the weekend as well as the 4 x 400m relay. She started the year with a school-record 56.87 seconds in the 400m at the Fred Hardy Invite but has since gone on to break her own record twice which now stands at 56.06 seconds. Her impressive speed can also been seen in the 200m where she broke the school record in her first career appearance in the event. Samuels' 200m school record now stands at 26.08 seconds.

A year removed from a sensational freshman year, sophomore Becca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) has also combined with Samuels to give the Bobcats added depth in the shorter distance events. She currently holds school records in the 400m hurdles, 4 x 100m relay, 4 x 400m relay, and long jump as she's shown great versatility and blossomed into the most versatile Bobcat runner of the group. She will be running in her signature events, the 400m hurdles and 4 x 400m relay for the Bobcats at the NECs.

The long lineage of distance runners hasn't left Quinnipiac as they will field a host of competitors in the events including a field that includes five contenders in the 1500m. Freshman Chelsea Savage (Pembroke, Mass.), senior Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.), junior Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.), freshman Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, N.J.) and senior Jill Humphreys (Burlington, Mass.) all make up a strong core that will fight for position in the 1500m throughout the weekend. All have achieved personal bests at times this season and will be looking to continue the long-stemming history of success for the Bobcats in the event.

Another area where the Bobcats could come away victorious is in the 3000m steeplechase where Quinnipiac features two runners in senior Andrea Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) and junior Christina Faust (Macungie, Pa.) who've both won events throughout the season. Szarkowicz comes into the weekend red hot after just placing ninth and recording a school-record of 10:47.13 in the Penn Relays last weekend. Her showing bested her personal-best by nearly 20 full seconds and finished ahead of competitors from schools such as South Carolina, Duke, Yale and West Virginia.

The 800m group for the Bobcats will feature several fresh faces as Savage will compete in her first 800m as well as the 4 x 800m relay. Sophomore Katie Petrie (Cranston, R.I.) will join up with Savage, freshman Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Conn.) and senior Hannah Donadio (Killingworth, Conn.) whom all helped break the outdoor 4 x 800m relay school record at the Penn Relays last week. The foursome combined for a time of 9:10.32, which now stands alone in the record books. Donadio and Nabadduka will also join Savage in the 800m event over the weekend.

Another group of Bobcats to look out for will certainly be the 4 x 400m relay team headlined by Becca Stabile, Samuels, junior Sam Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) and either Nabadduka or fellow freshman Nadia Jarvis (Port Republic, N.J.) . The Bobcats have already broken the school record twice this season and will look to continue their strong showings in the shorter distance events into Saturday and Sunday.

Sam Stabile is scheduled to be competing in the most events for the Bobcats as she will take part in the 4 x 400m relay, 200m and high jump. She currently holds the school record in both the 4 x 400m relay and is coming off a personal and school record 1.61m high jump on Sunday at the Yale Springtime Invitational. One of the most-improved runners from last season to the current 2013 campaign, Sam Stabile will try to cement her place in the school's record books.

Finally, the 10,000m event will include several Quinnipiac veterans including graduate student Martha Santandreu (Hamburg, N.Y.), junior Kelly Malloy (Sewell, N.J.) and junior Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.). Junior Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) will be competing in the 5000m as the Bobcats will look to improve upon their 2013 finish and continue their remarkable season.
