WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Quinnipiac women's outdoor track team finished strong in their final Northeast Conference Championships with an eighth place team finish and 46 cumulative points throughout the two-day event. Freshman Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, N.J.) headlined a group of four Bobcats who placed in the 1500m finals while sophomore Becca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) dazzled with a school record and third place finish in the 400m hurdles. The 46 points for the Bobcats is their most at the NECs since the 2008 season as the team continues to evolve in all facets. Monmouth University dominated the field with 218 points and their fifth straight NEC crown.

"It really was a great day," said Quinnipiac women's outdoor track head coach Carolyn Martin. "I was thrilled with many of the performances today. I am so excited with the momentum of this team as many of our athletes have really stepped it up this year."

The Bobcats earned a big eight points off their 1500m group highlighted by the outing of Campbell who put together a season-best 4:41.76, the fastest time for any Bobcat runner this season in the event, to finish third in the overall standings. Campbell was also the only underclassman to place in the 1500m as she was the only freshman that made the finals and will earn All-NEC Rookie honors for her efforts. Junior Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) placed for the second consecutive year in the 1500m as she crossed the line fifth in 2013, a year removed from her eighth place result in 2012. Soja crossed the line with a time of 4:43.36, just .03 off her personal-best time set yesterday in the preliminary stages. A pair of seniors rounded out the field for the Bobcats in Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Jill Humphreys (Burlington, Mass.). Morelli legged out a sixth place finish with a time of 4:45.30 while Humphreys showed sensational effort as she finished in eighth place, just .32 seconds ahead of the ninth place finisher, with a time of 4:49.51. Each earned points for the Bobcats in the team standings for the first time in their careers.

Just one day removed from breaking the school record, Becca Stabile continues to improve as she notched a highly impressive 1:01.68 that earned her a third place finish in the 400m hurdles finals. Becca has now bested the school record in the 400m hurdles in four consecutive meets dating back to the Larry Ellis Invitational three weeks ago. Not only was it good enough for a school record but it also qualified her for the ECAC Championships next weekend as she cleared the 1:02.04 required time by nearly half a second.

The Bobcats continued their success on the afternoon with senior Andrea Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) as she pulled through with a time of 11:01.77 in the 3000m steeplechase finals on Sunday. The senior placed fourth in the overall standings and earned her team points in the team standings for the first time in her career.

The 400m dash final grouping was a star laden bunch that featured six underclassmen and four freshmen that advanced to the finals on Sunday. Quinnipiac's Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Conn.) was one of those freshman and did well to place fifth in the overall standings with a time of 56.53 seconds, improving on her 56.62 from Saturday's preliminaries.

Youth continued to prevail for the Bobcats as freshman Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Conn.) posted a seventh place finish in the 800m finals with a time of 2:20.94. Nabadduka was the second-fastest freshman in the finals as she went up against three senior Monmouth runners in her event.

Another Bobcat success story that finished the day with a career-first was junior Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.). Competing in her third NEC Championships in the 5000m finals, Faust prevailed with a personal-best 17:55.95 on her way to a seventh place finish. It was the first time Faust had ever run a sub-18 minute 5000m in her career and it was also the first time she had placed in top-eight and earned points for the Bobcats in NECs in her career.

The final event of the day for Quinnipiac was their 4 x 400m relay squad of Becca Stabile, Samuels, junior Samantha Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) and freshman Nadia Jarvis (Port Republic, N.J.). This grouping had just broken a school record at the Penn Relays last week and showed well on Sunday with an eighth place team finish and a very respectable time of 3:56.35 that is the third-fastest in school history.

The Bobcats will now carry this strong momentum into their final meets of the 2013 season at the New England Championships and ECAC Championships next weekend. The meets coincide with one another as the New Englands will run Thursday through Saturday while the ECACs will begin on Friday and end on Sunday.
