Saint Francis (Pa.) Defeats Volleyball In Season Finale, 3-1
Seniors Jenna Benigno (Milford, Conn.) and Crista Valentino (Oakdale, N.Y.) led the Quinnipiac volleyball team with 13 kills and 12 digs, respectively, but the Bobcats were defeated by Saint Francis (Pa.), 3-1, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Bobcats finish their season at 5-30 (2-6 NEC) while the Red Flash moves to 11-19 (5-3 NEC).

Volleyball Falls To NEC Champion Robert Morris, 3-0
Freshman Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) tallied eight kills, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Northeast Conference front-runner Robert Morris, 3-0, Saturday afternoon. Fellow first-year player Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) had 22 assists for the Bobcats, who fall to 5-29 (2-5 NEC). With the win, the Colonials clinched the top seed in the NEC Tournament and at least a share of the NEC Regular Season Championship with a record of 18-9 overall (7-0 NEC).

Seniors Jenna Benigno (Milford, Conn.) and Crista Valentino (Oakdale, N.Y.) led the Quinnipiac volleyball team in kills and blocks, respectively, as the Bobcats swept St. Francis (N.Y.) on Senior Day at the Burt Kahn Court. Benigno had nine kills, while Valentino contributed 10 digs. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 5-28 overall and 2-4 in the Northeast Conference, while the Terriers drop to 0-30 (0-6 NEC).

Freshman Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) totaled 10 kills, but the Quinnipiac volleyball team was defeated by Providence, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Mullaney Gymnasium. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 4-28 while the Friars evened their record at 15-15.

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team travels to Providence, Saturday, before playing its final home match of the season against St. Francis (N.Y.) Sunday. The Bobcats will honor their two-member senior class prior to the match as part of Senior Day ceremonies. Jenna Benigno and Crista Valentino will play their final match at the Burt Kahn Court Sunday.

The Bobcats are coming off their first Northeast Conference victory, a 3-0 sweep at Wagner on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Explorers also defeated the Seahawks for their last win, a 3-2 decision on Oct. 7. La Salle has dropped seven straight matches.

With the win, the Bobcats improve to 4-26 (1-4 NEC), while the Seahawks fall to 3-18 (1-5 NEC).

Freshmen Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) and Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) each compiled double-doubles, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team fell to Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-2, in the Bobcats' Northeast Conference opener, Saturday afternoon at the Rothman Center. Carey finished with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Lawler had 33 assists and 11 digs. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-21 (0-1 NEC) while the Knights improve to 13-9 (1-0 NEC).

Freshman Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) contributed a career-high 41 assists, while fellow first-year player Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) compiled a double-double of 11 kills and 13 digs. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-20, while the Bulldogs improve to 13-8.

With the losses, the Bobcats fall to 3-18, while the Friars move to 9-9 and the Cougars improve to 4-7.

Shelagh Dolan (Westford, Mass.) had a team-best three blocks.

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team hit a season-high .351 and four different players had at least six kills as the Bobcats breezed past Coppin State, 3-0, in the nightcap of two matches played in the Quinnipiac Bobcat Invitational, Saturday at the Burt Kahn Court. Prior to the victory, which snapped a 14-match losing streak, the Bobcats fell to New Jersey Institute of Technology, 3-0, to begin the day.

Freshmen Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) and Stephanie Biediger (Houston, Texas) compiled double-doubles, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Hartford in five sets, 3-2, in the final match of the Quinnipiac Bobcat Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Burt Kahn Court. The Hawks took the first and third sets, both by a 25-20 margin, before winning the decisive fifth set, 15-12. The Bobcats won a pair of close sets that went to extra points, 27-25 and 26-24, in the second and fourth sets. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 2-16, while the Hawks improve to 5-11.

Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) posted double-figures in assists (31) and digs (12). Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) had eight kills while posting team-highs in hitting percentage (.273) and blocks (4).

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team faces intrastate foe Hartford, Tuesday, in West Hartford. The teams have won one match apiece and enter Tuesday's meeting having lost five consecutive matches each. Most recently, the Bobcats fell to Kent State, Maine and Providence at the Maine Invitational this past weekend. Meanwhile, the Hawks fell to former Northeast Conference member, Rider, future NEC institution, Bryant, and current NEC school, Sacred Heart, at the Sacred Heart Tournament last weekend.

ORONO, Maine ? The Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated twice at the Maine Invitational, Saturday at Memorial Gym. The Bobcats first fell to host Maine, 3-0, before Providence defeated Quinnipiac by the same margin later in the day. Freshman Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) led the Bobcats with 15 kills on the day, while senior Crista Valentino (Oakdale, N.Y.) tallied 16 of her 17 digs against Providence.

The Bobcats lost to Rhode Island, 3-1, to begin the day before falling to Towson, 3-0, in the night cap. Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) led the Bobcats with 14 kills on the day, while Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) (40 assists) and Crista Valentino (Oakdale, N.Y.) (26 digs) led the Bobcats in their respective statistical categories.

Volleyball Splits Season-Opening Tournament Matches
HAMDEN, Conn. ? The Quinnipiac University volleyball team split its first two matches of 2008 Friday, defeating Morgan State, 3-1, after falling to Fordham, 3-2, in the season-opening Quinnipiac Invitational. Freshman Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) achieved double-digits in kills in both matches, while freshman setter Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) totaled 73 assists on the day, including a double-double of 39 assists and 11 digs against Fordham. The win snaps a 25-match losing streak dating back to Sept. 7, 2007, when the Bobcats defeated Rider, 3-0.

Quinnipiac University Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald and Head Volleyball Coach Robin Sparks today announced the hiring of Kristopher Czaplinski as assistant volleyball coach. Czaplinski, a Shelton, Conn., native, comes to Quinnipiac with extensive playing and coaching experience at the intercollegiate and high school levels of the sport.

Women's Volleyball Picked Seventh In NEC Preseason Coaches Poll
The Quinnipiac University women's volleyball team was picked seventh out of nine teams in the 2008 Northeast Conference Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll. Last season, Quinnipiac turned in a 1-29 overall record including an 0-8 mark in conference play. Second-year head coach Robin Lamott Sparks will introduce a new look to her Bobcat squad that features four returning players and six freshman.

Quinnipiac Women's Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award
HAMDEN, Conn. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) today announced that the Quinnipiac University women's volleyball team has earned the 2007-08 AVCA Team Academic Award for the second consecutive year. The award honors all NCAA men's and women's volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. The Bobcats volleyball team finished with a department-high 3.44 GPA.
