Leaving For Lehigh

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team faces Lehigh, Columbia and Lafayette this weekend at the Lehigh-Lafayette Crosstown Tournament. The Bobcats will first take on Lehigh, Friday, before facing Columbia and Lafayette, Saturday. The Bobcats look to snap a six-match losing streak.

Scouting The Columbia Lions

The Lions open the 2008 season this weekend. Seven players who saw action in 2007 return for this season, led by senior outside hitter Amalia Viti, who tallied 303 kills for a 3.48 kills per game average. Sophomore right side Katie Mitchell led the Lions in blocks last season with 75 for a 0.90 blocks per game average. Columbia must replace primary setter Shannon Hunzicker, who paced the Lions with 636 assists a year ago. Junior Alex Marchyshyn, who had 214 assists last season, is the top returning setter.

Scouting The Lafayette Leopards

After falling in its first four matches, Lafayette split its last four. The Leopards defeated Coppin St. and Delaware St. to account for their two wins. Sophomore outside hitter Katrina Racibarskas leads Lafayette with 47 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Kayly Elmer's 3.12 kills per game are a team-best. Senior Megan Carter and junior Ashton Rossi share setter responsibilities with 92 and 79 assists, respectively. Freshman middle hitter Ally Taylor has a team-leading 10 blocks.

Scouting The Lehigh Mountain Hawks

Freshman outside hitter Angelika Kopacz has a team-leading 70 kills as Lehigh has gone 2-4 in its first six matches. The Mountain Hawks' have either swept or been swept in five of six matches. Lehigh swept St. Francis (N.Y.) and Loyola (Md.) in its two wins, while being swept by Robert Morris, Duquesne and St. Peter's. The Mountain Hawks also fell to Marist, 3-1. Freshman setter Jessica Kudrika (108 assists) and freshman middle blocker Rebecca Slegers (16 blocks) lead Lehigh in their respective categories.

She's on the All-Tournament Team Every Time

Freshman middle hitter Alyssa Naylor has made the all-tournament team in each of the two tournaments the Bobcats have played this season. She earned all-tournament recognition at the Quinnipiac Invitational after compiling 36 kills, a .336 hitting percentage and five blocks in four matches. Naylor was then named all-tournament at the Maine Invitational with 27 kills, a .442 hitting percentage and seven blocks in three matches.

Kayl and Nayl

Freshmen Kayla Lawler and Alyssa Naylor lead the Bobcats in assists and kills, respectively, to create a young, dynamic duo. Lawler has contributed 212 assists, while Naylor has a team-high 71 kills, including a 2.45 kills per set clip. Naylor has hit .364 for the season, while also leading Quinnipiac in blocks with 18.

On Deck

The Bobcats return to action, Friday, Sept. 19, when they travel to Providence, R.I., to partake in the Brown Invitational. Quinnipiac faces Bryant Friday, before taking on Brown and Stony Brook on Saturday.
