CHICAGO Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) had 31 assists and Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) added a team-high 12 digs as the Quinnipiac volleyball team defeated Chicago State, 3-0, Friday night in the opening round of the Cougar Invitational at the Jacoby Dickens Center. Stephanie Biediger (Houston, Texas) added a team-high nine kills, while Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) and Jenna Benigno (Milford, Conn.) had eight apiece. Shelagh Dolan (Westford, Mass.) had a team-best three blocks.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 3-16, while the Cougars drop to 0-17. The Bobcats got better as the match progressed, winning 25-18 in the first set, before finishing the Cougars off, 25-17, 25-15.
The Bobcats conclude Cougar Invitational action tomorrow, when they play Providence (10 a.m.) and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (4 p.m.).
