Long Island Defeats Volleyball, 3-0
HAMDEN, Conn. Jenna Benigno (Milford, Conn.) had 12 kills and Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) added 25 assists, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Long Island, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the Burt Kahn Court. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-22 (0-2 NEC) while the Blackbirds improve to 11-9 (2-0 NEC).
Crista Valentino (Oakdale, N.Y.) had a team-high 11 digs, while Stephanie Biediger (Houston, Texas) and Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) contributed 10 apiece. Carey also added nine kills.
The Blackbirds won in straight sets, 25-16, 25-22, 25-21. Long Island hit .286, while the Bobcats hit .206.
The Bobcats return to action, Friday, Oct. 24, when they play host to Central Connecticut. The match, set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Burt Kahn Court, coincides with the "Dig Pink" event being held to raise funds and heighten breast cancer awareness.
