HAMDEN, Conn. Senior Crista Valentino (Oakdale, N.Y.) tallied 22 digs and two other Bobcats posted double-doubles, but the Quinnipiac volleyball team was defeated by La Salle, 3-2, Wednesday night at the Burt Kahn Court. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 4-27, while the Explorers improve to 6-22.
Senior Jenna Benigno (Milford, Conn.) and freshman Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) each compiled double-doubles. Benigno racked up 11 kills and 13 digs, while Lawler contributed 34 assists and 14 digs. Freshman Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) tied Benigno for the team lead with 11 kills, while freshman Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) played a part in seven of the Bobcats' nine blocks (two solo, five assists).
The Bobcats took the first set, 25-17, before La Salle took the second and third, 25-22 and 25-14, respectively. Quinnipiac fought back with a 26-24 win in the fourth set, but La Salle had the final answer, taking the fifth, 15-8.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, when they travel to Rhode Island to take on Providence College. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
