PROVIDENCE, R.I. Freshman Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) totaled 10 kills, but the Quinnipiac volleyball team was defeated by Providence, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Mullaney Gymnasium. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 4-28 while the Friars evened their record at 15-15.
Freshman Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) tallied 22 assists, while fellow first-year player Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) had a team-high 12 digs. Naylor, Jenna Benigno (Milford, Conn.) and Shelagh Dolan (Westford, Mass.) each played a part in two blocks.
The Friars jumped out in front with a 25-12 win in the first set, before taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 victory in the second. Quinnipiac took the third set, 25-20, before Providence put the match away with a 25-17 win in the fourth set.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday, when they play host to Northeast Conference foe St. Francis (N.Y.). Prior to the 1 p.m. start at the Burt Kahn Court, Quinnipiac will honor Benigno and fellow senior Crista Valentino (Oakdale, N.Y.) during Senior Day ceremonies.
