QUEENS, N.Y. - Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) registered a career-high 14 kills, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team fell to Fordham, 3-0, Friday evening in the opening round of the St. John's Classic at Taffner Field House. After Fordham won the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-18, respectively, the Bobcats forced extra points in the third before falling, 26-24. The Rams improve to 2-2 with the win, while the Bobcats fall to 0-1.
Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) had 29 assists for the Bobcats, while Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) began her collegiate career with 16 digs. Fellow freshman Chelsey Pachoud (Riverside, Fla.) contributed nine kills and played a part in both of the Bobcats' two blocks.
The Bobcats continue St. John's Classic action Saturday, when they face the host Red Storm at 11 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. pairing with Boston College.
